Mmmm.... Gooey, chocolately Fudge!

We made this fudge a few weeks ago for the first time and, oh my gooey goodness, it's delicious and so simple, even Chris the girls could manage it with supervision. It's the quickest and easiest fudge recipe I have found. We decided to make some whilst visiting our friends The Hoopers in Newcastle.

What do you need?
To make this recipe you need just 3 ingredients, yes THREE!

1 can of condensed milk
400g chocolate bar (for this we used Galaxy, but it was just as nice with Dairy Milk, use your favourite.)
Chocolate toppings - in the past we have used mini creme eggs, buttons, mini eggs. This time we went for Maltesers and Mint Aero Bubbles. It's fun trying different things each time.

You will also need a flat bowl or pyrex dish, lined with baking paper, a saucepan and a wooden spoon.
Getting started.

What do you to do?
Pour the condensed milk into the saucepan over a gentle heat and then add all of the chocolate. Stir constantly until all of the chocolate has melted.

Looking good.

It becomes thicker and harder to stir but it is important to keep it going until all the chocolate has melted to keep its smooth consistency and to avoid burning on the bottom. Once all the lumps of chocolate have melted pour the mixture into you prepared dish and tease it until it's flat. Already you will notice that the mixture is thickening, so work quickly. You won't be able to get it completely smooth so don't spend time worrying over it.

Caution HOT!

Now for the toppings!

We used a mixture of Maltesers and Mint Aero Bubbles this time. I like to space them evenly which also helps when cutting the fudge into pieces but you can do it however you like, maybe you could roughly chop the toppings before you add them and scattered them over the top. Chopped nuts would be a nice alternative.

Finished!
What next?
Now pop the dish into the fridge for at least 6 hours or overnight is better. Once it has cooled and set then you can take it out, lift it from the dish using the baking paper (it's easy to do so don't worry) and then chop into pieces. We tend to chop so that there is a piece of topping on each segment but if you prefer a more "rustic" look then go for it.

And Finally?
Sit back and enjoy!

We hope that you enjoy this recipe, fun for the kids to make and great to have as a treat for movie night or parties. Let us know if you've tried it and what you thought, we love to hear what other toppings you might have used.
